"the vast majority of 3+3 upstaging is to 3+4. Not a life-threatening situation by any means."
Jack, I recoiled at that remark. Gee, maybe we should just quit talking to anyone who isn't a 4+4 or 4+5. I mean this 3+4 stuff is just a piece of cake! And 3+3? No problem at all.
I must confess, I'm having a more and more difficult time reading posts here on HW. None of us is a doctor. None of us has as much information about
newcomers posting as does their urologist within 5 minutes of actually meeting them and assessing their physical appearance, and yet we have the nerve to tell them that, oh, they have all the time in the world to make a decision, or their uro is nuts, or maybe just a moneygrubber for trying to tell them that surgery is their best option.
Remember when Angelina Jolie had a double radical mastectomy based on the knowledge that she carried a gene which substantially heightened her risk of breast cancer? She didn't have cancer. She had the surgery done prophylactically. Some people criticized her, but by and large her decision was regarded as heroic.
I wish we had that kind of compassion to tell newcomers who are striving to come to a decision that whatever they choose, they are doing something heroic in the battle for their health, and to admit that while we (hypothetically) view AS as a recommended option, we are not their doctor, and they should probably listen to what he/she has to say..
In truth, I'm sick to death with this obsession with AS. You guys are on some sort of crusade that I want no part of. If a man is low risk, is comfortable with that as an option, good for him. But if a man, and especially a younger man, decides that he wants surgery and considers it the most likely way to perhaps be "cured" of prostate cancer, then I say go for it, and congratulations.
Maybe the AS proponents need their own forum where they can proselytize to their hearts content...or did they already try that and find out it just didn't sell?
At any rate, thank God I "only" was a 3+4. I just wish they had told me that is was not a life-threatening situation by any means.
