I was wanting to know if anyone knows anything about Dr Scott Gilbert at the moffit cancer center ? My brother has an appointment with him and was really wanting to know if he was a good dr. He is going to set up surgery with him.

No, I don't know him but Dr. Vipul Patel is at Celebration Health in Celebration, FL (near Disney World). If your brother is having his prostate removed, Dr. Patel has done more than anyone in the world. He did mine as well as over 7,000 so far.

I can help you with info on Dr. Patel.

Denise - though like Big Mac I live in FL, I have not been to Moffitt.

I go instead to Univ of Florida & Shands in Gainesville which is about the same distance NE of me as Moffitt is South of me.

Chances are though, if this doctor is at Moffitt, he is a good doctor.

Maybe someone with first hand knowledge will chime in.

In Feb 2006 my husband had his prostate removed at Moffitt by Dr. Pow-Sang. He received good treatment there and continues to under the care of Dr. Jingsong Zhang.

Thank you everyone for the information. I will talk to my brother and see what he wants to do. He is scarred and so am I. I want to make sure the dr that does the operation is good cause I hear that means a lot to how everything turns out. I get on this site everyday and read what people write so I can get ideas. Thank you again

I have also heard about Dr Patel in Celebration and may be worth a consult if your brother has already decided on surgery. If we had a do-over, I think he would have been Marks choice.

After extensive research and discussions with numerous surgeons at various hospitals and cancer centers in several states, and even though we live in Tampa, we decided to have Dr. Patel in Celebration (Orlando) do the surgery because of his reputation and experience. When my husband's pathology report deemed additional treatment was necessary. we went to several radiation oncologists as well as medical oncologists. After more research we chose Moffitt for adjuvant radiation because of 1) their continued research for advanced methods of treatment; 2) their use of the latest and greatest equipment; 3) their radiation oncologist has extensive experience and is a Ph.D. in the field as well. This gave us a great deal of comfort. We totally understand how stressful and scared you must be but, as one poster on this website told me, once you have a game plan in place things will start to settle down and you'll feel like you're more in control.
