Question about gold markrs

My father in law was recently diagnosed with PCa with psa at 55. He asked me about my gold markers and said his dr put his markers through his rectum. Has anyone else had this? Why would they go through his rectum?

Fairly standard put them in rectally - one of the closest approaches to the prostate. My uro used the biopsy setup to place the markers (transrectal ultra-sound, needles to insert rather than extract). It was easier than the biopsy.

After the markers were place, they waited a couple of weeks then did an CT scan to map everything out for the RO's treatment planing.
