Bill - Thanks for sharing all the details. I just got diagnosed. Not sure of the Gleason score yet. Why do you feel negative about radiation? Any knowledge or information about Proton therapy? How do you find out if your cells are aggressive or passive?

Hello Fred and welcome to our forum. Sorry you have to be here but you will find lots of helpful and caring folks here. One thing I would like to do is to refer you to the sticky thread at the top of our forum. Once you learn more about your diagnosis, i.e. Gleason score, number of positive cores, % cancer in each core, etc. please let us know and you will find people with lots of knowledge to help you through this.

Re proton therapy, we have a number of folks who have successfully received this treatment with minimal side effects. You can search back for some older threads on the subject or perhaps some of them will weigh in here.

We have a few guys here who did the proton thing but I'm not one of them. I imagine they will be along soon since Jim put the word "proton" in the title of this thread.

Do let us know when you find out more about your diagnosis (Gleason score, how many positive cores were found, what percentage of each core was involved with the cancer).

Most men diagnosed with prostate cancer have disease that is easily treatable and not a few of them don't really need treatment at all -- they just need to keep an eye on it. So most likely when you find out the details they won't be particularly bad news. We'll be here if you have questions or want to vent.

Hey Fred, I am one of the "proton guys" and have had a good result so far. But especially if you are a low grade gleason, don't rush into anything. Take your time and make an informed decision as to treatment, if any at all. I chose proton but there are a lot of treatment choices available to most of us. Any specific questions as to proton treatment I will be glad to try and answer for you.
