Hi everyone,

I recommended this board today to someone, and for the life of me couldn't find any of my previous posts - it's been a busy year and handing my thesis in within 2 weeks, so haven't been around much.
My hubby CJ continues to do well but is now facing a hip replacement in the new year. He's happy about it though. Likely to be successful and severe arthritis only in the one hip not the other. Next week it will be 8 years since his Pca diagnosis on his 49th birthday. PSA remains low at annual check and no other problems now. It's now a distant memory believe it or not, and I never thought I would say that.

Just checking in so my friend can recognise our situation and feel free to post about her hubby when, and if, she need to.

Thanks for the updates... Good luck on the upcoming surgery.

The most common thing I hear about hip replacement is: "Wish I had done it sooner."

My brother had a hip replacement - it was a great thing. Amazing how much it improved his life and reduced his pain due to arthritis. I can understand him being happy about getting it done.

How wonderful to see the good news about CJ's continued good PSA results! He'll get through the hip replacement like a champ. And looks like you're keeping yourself pretty busy - good for you & good luck on your thesis.

I think I saw you respond to Swims post recently - great to see some old timers still around with good news!

Hi Lana!! A lot of hard work went into that thesis! Big Time Congrats on all fronts. With a new hip CJ will be doing cartwheels in no time.

Great to hear from you all.

I will reply individually but in my mindset at the moment, Nick's question resonates. My thesis (yet to be examined) is being sent overseas (to three people) so I'd better not give the exact title ... YET that is. LOL... But the theme is FAMILY CAREGIVING of people with severe physical disabilities. It is a PhD thesis. I did a community study with long-term family carers as it is my interest.

Less than 1% of Registered Nurses are doctoral qualified globally. For me, its the end of 6 years of research - I should have been finished in 4 - I was on a scholarship for 4 years, but couldn't do it (in 4 years) working as well. I plan to do a 'Compiler' now, and be one of 'them', but I'll skip being a professor.

My daughter turned 30 yesterday and is 14 weeks pregnant. You all know what that means!
I'll become Dr Lana AND a first-time grandmother at about the same time (It is a 3-4 month wait for examination result). Defending, approval, reports all done. Just need that final result.. Then publishing in 2015.

CJ has been a grand-dad for 10 years (We are a blended family), but this whole pregnant daughter thing has freaked me more than submitting a PhD - in a good way of course. My daughter nearly herself died at birth 30 years ago - she was actually resuscitated at 5 weeks old - premature. Anyway .... knitting baby rugs for the next post PhD phase of 3 months waiting for result will keep me busy.

I recommend Face-booking Tony - He's a champ and was one of the first to ever give me a cyber 'hug' on this board. Those were the days! Anyway, I'm rambling now.
