hi would like to know how many have gained weight, during their PC treatment, Or is losing weight? after their PC BEING removed, or after any radation treatment, mydoctor said not to try to lose any weight even that I am to heavy, say its to bad on the body,? it seems that a surge of rising psa does not start your body losing weight, till it reachs a certain point, that triggers losing weight. has any of your oncolgy dr s told you the same?

I gained a boatload o'flab during my two years on HT. Most guys gain at least some weight while on hormones. I'm hoping to shed it again if the effects of the HT ever wear off...

I gained about 4 kilos (10 lbs) after starting HT.
I am now 11 months in with just 1 month to go, but have already decided that I need to shed some weight as my wardrobe is now limited to just a few stretchy items. Too mean to buy new clothes, so have to get back to normal weight (about 80 kilos - 175 lbs).
Pretty sure my weight gain was due to comfort eating plus maybe a bit less daily activity, rather than any change in metabolism, but I'm interested to know what theory is behind HT weight gain.
I've just reduced the sweet stuff and cut back on portion size and have already lost about 4lb.

Have the opposite problem. The past year, been dealing with unexplainable severe weight loss, and a total and complete loss of appetite.
Have lost basically 100 lbs. in less than a years time.
For about a month or so after my recent major oral surgery, my weight went up and down, plus or minus 3-4 lbs, and thought perhaps it was finally stabilizing. However, about a week ago, the weight continues on its downward plunge.
Despite eating two major meals yesterday, plus a lot of sugar junk food (nerve medicine for me), lost almost 3 lbs. in a 24 hour period.
Thus far, no doctor has been able to come up with a direct reason or cause. Monday, I start with a fresh VA doctor, and hoping they will take the time to test and investigate. There has to be an underlying cause. I have all the physical signs of "wasting disease", more commonly associated with final stages of a cancer death, but oncologist does not believe its connected to my advanced PC. I am concerned that something else is going on in my body, that so far has not been properly found or diagnosed.
I have read, that wasting conditions can be the result of cancer treatments, not just the cancer itself. And with all the severe radiation damage I have suffered, there may be a connection.
So if anyone wants to send me their extra weight, could use at least 30-40 lbs. back. I am still the incredible shrinking man.
Was even put on some meds that are known to cause excessive weight gain, and none of them worked for me, which frustrated my PCP.

Purgatory, I have about 20 lb you're welcome to, if it were possible.
I'm up about 20 lb since May 1, 2013 back when I started HT, and it seems to be stable there. I went up about 10 lb through the end of August that first year, while on HT and having radiation therapy. My RO said they didn't mind some increase, that their biggest concern is weight loss. They said that they never complain when their patients gain weight! He also told me due to my HT that it's very common, virtually inevitable, to gain weight. He said anywhere from 20 to 40 lbs was not at all uncommon.
It's not getting worse now, but I sure have a restrictive diet. Even at probably 1/2 to 2/3 the calories I used to eat it's a challenge. I miss my testosterone....

I have lost 25 lbs since the prostate bandit visited in Feb. Of 2012. I attribute most of it to retirement and having more time to exercise. I also have done a better job of watching what I eat which is a direct result of my diagnosis.

Not exactly on topic, being that I'm pre surgery. But before diagnosis, I had good eating habits, and with the help of weight watchers, and my willpower, I've lost about 35 pounds and kept it off over the last 3 years.
After the diagnosis I lost about 7 pounds, down to 180, in about two weeks. Then I started eating again, but my eating habits have not been very good. I gained the seven pounds back, which is no big deal but have not been eating the salads and vegetables that I've made part of my dietary habits, more fried stuff, mayo, more bread. Sucks, I need to get back to eating healthy, committing to that now, even though tough over the holidays.

Kenny,
One of the novelties of being a cancer patient is having doctors who are pleased when I gain weight.
David (Purgatory),
I certainly have those 40 lbs to spare. Here's a
graph of my weigh so you will know how much extra flab I have in inventory. Anything over 230 is available, although the logistics are daunting for working the exchange, though.
Jerry,
I miss mine, too. I have an appointment with the vampire on Monday to see if my T has started to recover at five months after my HT ended.

I've gained weight, but it has nothing to do with PC.
You see, this new company I joined provides free snacks and bagels every Friday morning.
Speaking of which, It's BAGEL FRIDAY!!!

My normal weight before starting HT was 172-178.
I was at 178 when I started HT. I did fine for about 6 months but then I started eating everything in sight. My weight ballooned to 202.
I have been working in getting my weight down since then, but I eat too much crap...when it's in the house, which it seems to be from Halloween through New Years.
My weight is now down to 186. At least my clothes are starting to fit again.

I have lost weight after cryoablation. Lost weight with complications of treatment. Then switched to a mostly vegan, high fiber diet. Plus take supplements and metformin. Weight continues to be under control.
I hope my loss is from the diet since its coming off pretty easily and I'm used to being heavy.

I was 193 at surgery in 2007. After HT I was 229 in 2010.
After HT I got back down to 212 as of last March. Still not happy with it I made my Lenten promise to lose ten pounds. My Pastoral Associate lost 35 pounds through a low carb (no simple carb) diet he shared with me. After 40 days of Lent I was at 195. Stayed on that diet and today I checked in at 181.
I cheat every once in a while on the simple carbs. On Sundays my wife and I let loose and enjoy whatever. On Mondays we are back to the low carb approach.
My pants were 38 at my worst. Today 34's are loose. When my wife saw me shrinking she joined in just before Easter and she has lost 33 pounds and is loose in her size 6 pants. I joke with her that I bought her a convertible Camaro SS for Mother's Day and she shrunk into it...lol
Together the low carb approach dropped 60 pounds between us. Complex carbs are no problem. It was the breads, pastas, sugars that were causing our weight control issues.
Problem solved! I feel like a new man...

In mid-2011 I had gotten up to 220 lbs, while eating everything PCa cancer supposedly likes. Red meat? Gobble, gobble. Dairy products? Gobble, gobble. Sugar? Down the hatch. Etc., etc.
Upon Dx in December of that year, I decided the riot act had been read to me as far as diet was concerned, so I took very seriously my eating habits at that point, switching to a 90 % fruits and vegetables diet, started drinking pomegranate juice daily, and junked the junk food. I have been eating that way ever since.
Over the next 3-4 months my weight dropped in a healthy way to a daily average of 185 lbs., it stayed there, and that's where it is now. In fact, it had dipped to that 185 number at just about the time I began RT, and remained there during and after treatment. So it doesn't seem in my case that the RT had an effect on my weight one way or another.

I'm now 235 after SRT and ADT.. I was 227 at RP. Before that I had gone a medical diet and hot down to 218 which is a good weight for me. My trouble is alcohol and bad carbs. I know how to lose weight but have little willpower. I work out 3-4 times a week and pay golf 3 times a week. Now that I'm weening off ADT maybe I'll lose weight again!

Like Mel, I eat way too much CRAP/JUNK FOODS (when Dorothy's not looking or at work)!
Oct. 1, 2012, my weight was 185 lb. Oct. 1, 2012, started HT. Until just a couple months ago, I had gained up to 200-205. Today, I'm at 212??
I LOVE SWEETS AND FLOUR!!
Beginning 1-2-2015, will join a gym (with a heated pool) and get back down to 175-180. That's my goal.
I don't like being over weight, but have been most of my-going on 45 years of marriage.

I gained 25 lbs since HT and have been on it for almost 4 years...still haven't lost that. Have also picked up an extra 15 lbs while using zytiga/prednisone. DR. told me the steroid would make my appetite go nuts and it did. Stable right now but still about 50 lbs more than I should be at my height and age.
