Surgery on Monday

I know this is a controversial topic but, we are all different and have different situations and even mitigating circumstances. I'll have a bilateral Orchiectomy performed. Permanent HT. I weighed things and determined it was the best approach for me. Hard decision, and not looking forward to the "permanent" SE's. I wish all the best of luck in all THEIR decisions.

Wishing you well on Monday. My husband considered orchiectomy very seriously before deciding surgery just wasn't for him. Instead, he's doing the ADT and docetaxel now.

Will keep you in our thoughts for a speedy recovery.

Thats a real tough call, that is not made lightly. You assuredly have researched this thoroughly. I get it! Man is an adaptive species, life will go on and you will flourish.

As I've said before, what a perverse disease that makes choices like this seem reasonable! That's a big reason this forum is so helpful. I can't imagine ANYONE else, except my wife, that I could talk to about something like this. Man, no one in the "general public" has ever heard of such a thing.

Women face a radical mastectomy, and are praised for their courage and receive wide sympathy and ongoing support. I'm not sure what the response would be if we could tell someone about such a surgery; probably something like, "Eww." and a quick change of subject.

When telling others about the similarly effective but less-invasive HT, I usually say it's kind of like the "low-T" commercials, but "no T". None. Still people don't really understand. They'll look at me quizzically, and we move to another topic. (It usually comes up either due to a hot flash or fatigue hitting me).

Best of luck on Monday. By doing this, you will avoid all the endless series of hormone shots that so many have to endure and tolerate and schedule.

In this battle, I think every reader on this forum has had to face difficult choices and decisions on this road that we all walk.

I admire your courage, fortitude, and honesty in sharing this with others. This is a place where other patients can turn to, for insightful and HONEST information like you have shared.

I will say a prayer for your speedy recovery.

Good luck with surgery Doug,
My father and a good friend have had this surgery for testicular cancer. They are both doing great. I am assuming yours is bilateral. (Editing - I just looked back - you said bilateral).
