Had my follow up meeting with the RO at MSKCC this morning. I told him my decision has been made to do the surgery but my conviction is less tha 100%, which he understood and we agreed that I'll never be 100% sure, most people aren't .

I arranged for him to get a copy of the MRI disk, high he told me he looked at, and it showed no surprises, organ confined, one possible lesion in the same area as what the biopsy indicated, nothing more. Pretty much the same as what Dr Tewari said.

He told me that I either Brachy or surgery are both good decisions, and he's with me on my decision, expects a full cure, based on what we know so far. I thanked him and told him I hope I never see him again, but if I did need SRT at some point (I guess only I could think this way :-(. ) I would be back. He laughed and said he thinks with the surgeon I chose and my pre surgical pathology, he thinks I probably won't need to see him again.

So my due dilligence I officially done, and nothing to do now but try to gormet about this and drink a lot for the next two weeks.

Well then, you finally got what you have been asking for - an RO that is positive about your decision on surgery. Based on that there will be no more of this waffling from you on your decision. Get out there and enjoy the holidays, drink lots, empty that prostate often, and keep on the kegels!

"Oh what a relief it is" when you finally make your decision! Enjoy the holidays, follow Yoopers advice, empty that prostate while you still have it. Your life is going to change from this point forward.

Start preparing for surgery.
Start the check list:
recliner can see TV
DVD, video streaming service, cable paid up.
Books, magazines
Basketball pants
List of things to worry about (best to plan this ahead so you don't have to worry about it).
Should this be bleeding?
Does this mean a post op infection?
How often do I clean the cath bag?
I hate the cath - is it causing irreversible damage?
Did I buy the right pads?
Does taking out the cath hurt?

Congrats Prato. I remember after finally making my decision I was super anxious to get started. First was HT, which I was able to start on a day's notice.

Surgery's clearly something different so I do hope you get to step back and enjoy the holidays! Wishing you all the best!

Good for you! Just approach it with a positive attitude and you'll be fine as you're using one of the worlds best facilities. Your first BM post op will be a big relief as gas is the most painful part of surgery! The cath is no big deal and is only in for a week or two. Good luck with recovering continence and erectile function ASAP. The #1 objective of course is cure!

Did you stay with Samadi or switch to Tewari?  Both are good.  As you know, my boyfriend used Samadi.  Very happy with the results. His friend used Tewari.  He's happy as well.  Either way, you are in good hands.

Very positive post.

Now, put it in the decision made file, and never look back. So many times we will find ourselves second guessing our decisions, which has no positive value, and driving ourselves crazy.

Your RO sounds like a practical kind of Doc, and is giving you a great response.

@teddydog - no I was with Samadi for about one day, as soon as I saw Tewari I cancelled Samadi. Both great docs, I just didn't like the way Samadi was trashing my urologist and the hospital that he was at and everything related to radiation options. So Tewari it is. Very nice, humble man, and great at getting the job done right.

@Mel, you are probably right, 5 days, maybe less But I'm gonna try to hide it.

@Andrew, you are funny, I'm printing out the list (and adding it to all the other lists I've printed out. Gonna just give it to Mrs Pratoman and tell her to go shopping. (she already offered, I'm not that brave)

@ Everyone else, thanks. I think the truth be known, this is the second time I've made a final decision. But this time its final, I've closed the loop with the follow up meeting with the RO. Doesn't mean I won't second guess myself. I'll try not to, but I will.

Congratulations on your decision and your decision process. When that little "shoulder guy" starts whispering in your ear again, just knock him off and step on him. You've got this. Nobody gets perfect information, but yours sure sounds good enough!

You've set course, so keep your focus forward, execute your plan, and get any advice you can to optimize that plan. You're done (right, you hear me?) with figuring out what to do, now you just need to do it to the best of your ability.

You're going to do great!

Congratulations, Pratoman. I admire your ability to do what you need to do to feel comfortable and secure in your decision. I did a lot of second-guessing, back-and-forths, what-ifs, flip-flops, and other assorted wrestling with my decision, before becoming decisive about the treatment. It's okay. We've all been there to a lesser or greater extent. Enjoy the holidays.

I'll probably second guess until the anesthesiologist tells me to count to ten. But I'm not looking back.

I a, still second guessing everything...and I have no recollection of doing any counting preservers..they gave me something prior to being wheeled down the hall and I was out well before I made it to surgery...good luck looking forward to great results. Happy Holidays

My second Brachytherapy procedure was like that. Even though it was the same procedure as the first, I remember different parts. First one I recall putting on the mask and them telling me to take some deep breaths but on the second one I don't remember anything past the prep.
