We've had some pretty serious threads lately on some pretty "heavy" topics (as we often do) (and on one in particular), so maybe it's time for a fun thread to lighten the mood a bit, especially in view of the holiday season.

So why not vote for your favorite Christmas movie above, and if you like, post below as to why you like it so much.

Oh, and by the way, let me be one of the first to wish for a happy holiday season for everyone!

There really are too many favorites. One of our favorite things to do is watch Christmas movies. Christmas Story, A Wonderful Life and there is a rather obscure one that we really like for some reason called The Road To Christmas. Lifetime and Hallmark have some pretty good ones but you have to sift through the junk to get to them. And 81 Merry Christmas to you and to everyone on the forum.

Hard to beat a Charlie Brown Christmas. Linus and his Christmas tunes and we've all experienced a Charlie Brown tree! Happiest of Holidays to all and best wishes in 2015!

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! What a hoot, we can all relate to some part of the movie. Ex. 28 extension cords plugged into 1 socket.

"A Christmas Story" is our hands-down favorite. We first saw it, the entire thing, while sitting in a plane on a taxiway in Chicago while waiting for a gate to become available, Christmas 1983. It was so cold there they only had 3 operating fuel trucks, so the backups were endless. Even better, we had our first child with us, 6 months old at the time! 16 hours to fly from Detroit to Omaha; a record to this day.

It's very memorable, and has become our very favorite over the years.

At the same time, the one that really crystalizes the season for me is the Charlie Brown Christmas. Vince Guaraldi's music in that one touches me way deep somehow. I'm 10 years old again every time I see that one!

Miracle on 34th Street (prefer the original but I like the remakes also)
The Perfect Gift (this one usually only runs on TBN or a christian station but it is awesome about a little girl who learns the real meaning of Christmas because she's upset her birthday is on Christmas)

Dicken's Christmas Carol is the winner for me, but there have been so many versions, you really need to specify a favorite...for me, George C. Scott is the ultimate

okay the last one isn't strictly a Christmas movie but it helps to get unwanted guests deciding it's time to leave...

Ok, Ghandi - stay with me. I admit it is not a Christmas movie. But when it was released in 1982 my (now) wife -- I'll call her G -- I, and two other 30-something year-old adults shared a large house. The other two housemates went away to see their respective families for Christmas. Being left alone for Christmas G and I, who were not romantically involved with each other at the time, went out for dinner and the saw Ghandi. Which I guess was our unofficial first actual date.

I agree wholeheartedly, Bob. George C. Scott is THE best Ebenezer Scrooge ever, and captures the Dickens' character precisely. Other versions make him a cartoonish character or a caricature. He is neither. There's at least a little Scrooge in each of us, which is one of the reasons why the story is so powerful.

I've read all of Dickens' novels and many of his other writings. He created more than 2,000--count 'em--characters, each true to life.

I am a sucker for Christmas. It's worse with the hormones. I love them all. Hermy the elf is my favorite actor. I have to watch its a wonderful life every year. Thanks for this thread

Super Max, You gave me a chuckle with Bad Santa. Never have been a big fan of the movie due to the language but my wife loves it and we have to watch it every year...since I have favorites I have to see every year that she doesn't particularly care for. I have put in my Netflix que and we will be watching it tonight or tomorrow night.

My favorite is "A Family Man". Some say it is a ripoff of "A Wonderful Life" but I think that's unfair. I've always been fascinated by alternate reality stuff - How even seemingly minor decisions can change the entire course of your life.

There are so many good ones out, but, like a few others have said: Miracle on 34th Street (prefer the original) is my all time favorite! Guess you can tell my age!
