Question about prostate cancer spread to liver

I just found out the harsh news that my father's prostate cancer has spread to his liver.

Currently, he is on Taxotere after ten years on Lupron and three months on Zytiga. His cancer is spread to the bone, and now to the liver.

How bad is this news? Can chemo and drugs like Xtandi be effective against the cancer even if it is PCA spread to liver?

I need to give him a phone call and try to be optimistic. What can I say at this point that will make him feel as if this is NOT the beginning of the end?

For the record, I got him an appointment at Dana Farber in Boston with Dr. Pomerantz who is an expert on prostate cancer genetics. My father also tested positive for BRCA2 and I'm trying to get him into a trial with PARP inhibitors.

That's also my understanding Mel, systemic therapy should work in all areas.

Our MO had told us that chemo is also effective on soft organs. Good luck we also see someone at Dana Farber.

And if it isn't working there, its probably, gosh the word escapes me, hopefully context will rescue the thought. You know the kine that doesn't need testosterone to survive. There's that darn tipping point spectre again… Begone Banquo, begone…. Since the liver regenerates , surgery may be the answer. Have a good talk with oncologist, don't let him BS you then tell it straight. Bottom Line your Dad will have to rise to the occasion in the last analysis, which he knows. Come on guys you ain't dead till you are. Where there is life there is…. well life. Who needs hope when you have life. I will never understand why the concept of life is so misunderstood. I hope I don't anyway…..
