And another question! Those of you who did decide to do aRT, did it affect (re-affect) continence? Our doctors were suggesting that husband would remain at the stage he was in when aRT began....but is there "backsliding"? Can you go back to less control?
I believe you can go backwards, though it is not common.
My surgery was in August 2013. By December, I was 90% dry, but still had occasional stress incontinence. Was wearing a pad more as a precaution than a neccessity.
I started ART in early January 2014 and sailed through that with no real issues. Completed by end of February. Continence remained good. However in early May, I did a bit of heavy lifting and had a bad leak. From there it just got worse to the point where I am now, with major incontinence, using 6 to 7 pads per day. I can't be certain that this is due to RT, but can see no other reason for it.
This is all complicated by the fact that I also have strictures, again possibly caused by RT. I am scheduled to have a Urodynamic study performed in a couple of weeks so that my surgeon can determine my best course of action.
Have to say I have not seen any other instances of continence reversal in all my searching, but it certainly seems likely that continence will not improve after RT.
