HT: Switch To Degelarix (Firmagon) vs. Lupron ?

Hello To All !

My oncologist is starting to think that switching me over to Degelarix (Firmagon) hormone shots would give him more CONTROL over my PSA, instead of the 4-month Lupron shots I am currently receiving.

I think he also believes that Degelarix will shoot the testosterone down even further than my Lupron shots. My PSA and testosterone are beginning to show signs of a slow rise.

Is there ANYONE out there reading this that believes they are getting a BETTER response in PSA control by switching over to the once-a-month Degelarix shots instead of Lupron ?

Has anyone had better PSA success since switching over to Degelarix ?

If so --- please let me hear from you. I am facing this decision in the near future.

Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Myers in VA switched all his patients from Lupron to Firmagon over a year ago.

The only three drawbacks I have heard:

1. Have to do monthly versus Lupron also available every 3 months (12 weeks), 4 months (16 weeks) and possibly every 6 months.

2. Requires skil on part fo the nurse to not slam bam you. Slow and steady for a minute or so, not like most other shots.

3. The first treatment is a double gut shot, after that only one side per month.

Not a patient of Dr Myers and not on Firmagon, just what I have heard.

I'm a patient of Dr. Myers. He switched me from Zoladex to Firmagon about a year ago. The studies dramatically illustrate the superiority of Firmagon in suppressing testosterone and controlling PSA. Firmagon injections are very painful if not delivered properly. Many offices are not technique savvy and must be educated. As you can imagine this can be touchy but it must be addressed.
