Surgery today -- can't sleep

Slept a little, but some residual Magnesium Citrate kicked in and I had to run to the bathroom and then I was awake. What to do with the sleeplessness? write a blog post: www.ewkilgore.com/the-future-keeps-me-awake/

I think I can get a few hours of shut-eye now, before heading off. Surgery is scheduled for 8am. My brother, waorgany, arrived last night, and it's good to have him here.

I'll keep you all posted.

All checked in, pre op completed we are just sitting in the pre op room waiting for the Anstigiologist and docs to stop in surgery about 0740... So far do good! Will be waiting with Eric's wife, will keep everyone posted. Thanks for all well wishes.

about two hours in so far so good, my sister in law got a call from the nurse that put us in for a quick scare..but it was just a routine call saying everything was going good. They have a pretty cool system that shows up on TV screens in the waiting area and cafe that has a color coded system that updates the status of the surgery patient and where they are in the process, it's linked to your specific number, Eric is #1... Current status Blue In OR, next is dark Blue closing, then light purple close and dark purple recovery and then pink...11 different colors in all from arrival to recovery, very neat system, we also have pager like you have when waiting for a table at a restaurant to notify us if needed.

Update...

Eric is out of surgery we just spoke with his doc and everything went great nothing outside the Prostate and spared nerves on both sides great news will see him soon.

Done with recovery up in his room semi alert but doing well!

Hats off to a great doctor who did a good job on his surgery!!!

I'm glad to hear all went well and that it looks like all was organ confined.

As for laying awake at night -- something I do more now than I use too, though probably more from age than from worry -- I find having my Kindle close by helps. I can read a chapter or so of a book in "white on black" mode without disturbing my wife and usually am able to get back to sleep. A really boring book helps.

Ichabod update...

He is doing amazing....sore yes, in pain yes...on drugs yes..drinking some water, eating ice chips, had a popsicle (not his favorite flavor), had some broth, sat up, stood up...burbed like a Sailor whose been drinking all night...ready to walk but hadn't when I left...keeping him druged good for the pain, finally got a bed extender for his long legs and feet only been promised to him all day! We went to dinner then returned his wife back to him and me, the kids and his mother in law all went back home for the night...he is in good spirits and is as good as can be expected 10 hours post op. Will be good to see him up and moving tomorrow and hopefully on his way back home then..will keep you all updated thanks for the support!!!

Thanks for all the support. Finally got up and did a lap around midnight. Much better than my first attempt. Slept well, up until now, with very manageable pain. Ate some more jello and have minimal bleeding. Looking forward to getting on my feet again this morning.
