I know many of you are not in Australia, so you are not aware that our little corner of Oz has recently been devastated by Cyclone Marcia. Our home took a direct hit, but luckily apart from lots of trees uprooted, power lines down etc., we are all safe and sound.
My G9 husband has worked non stop in searing temperatures, extremely high humidity, and very, very trying conditions to get some semblance of order back in our lives. He has kept up with our sons in law leading the way chain sawing, towing, lifting, pulling, moving huge branches, and generally going full pelt 24/7 since Marcia hit on Friday.
Tonight I said "enough... stop and let the young ones do the rest". Did he listen? Of course he didn't. No used telling him that he is supposed to be "sick" - he just takes a quick breather, and then back to the job.
We have been fortunate enough to now have power restored to our home (not sure why WE are among the lucky few), and we have our extended families and their friends staying with us for the duration as they have no power, little water, and sweltering, sweltering temperatures. Those with generators are only ok so long as fuel is available and of course with no power, the service stations cannot pump fuel. We found out too, that newer cars are almost impossible to syphon fuel from - I believe its to try to stop anti theft/petrol sniffing.
I have finally convinced him to go to bed early tonight, and I think he was asleep before his head hit the pillow. But he will be up crack of dawn before it gets too hot to go at it again.
I don't think I will write him off yet... lots of life in the old dog yet!
