One more vote for the recliner chair - I've been sleeping in one since my surgery, hope to transition to the bed later this week.
My urologist's protocol was to eat five small meals a day instead of three larger meals and avoid spicy food.
I had no bladder spasms but had the drug prescribed just in case. Also had no issues with the catheter where it enters little willie. My catheter has a large stick-on patch that must be removed with alcohol - it has worked great to keep the tube anchored to my leg.
Still on the original catheter bag - I put it in a small paper grocery bag and carry it when I walk. Have your wife empty the bag before you walk.
I had quite a bit of discomfort from cramping due to gas - this was worse than the surgical pain but after three days I started passing gas and finally got it all passed. Some have recommended something like GasX - that might have helped a bunch.
Since we are a 4.5 hour drive from MD Anderson, we are staying at the attached hotel for up to two weeks before we go home, I wanted two conditions to be met before the drive home: a) no catheter and b) the ability to comfortably sit for two hours at a stretch.
Oh - to my complete astonishment, I felt like I was having a nocturnal erection the last couple of nights - didn't want that to happen with the catheter in place
.
Good luck and see you on the other side.
