Changing PSA decrease velocity while on ADT

My dad started ADT 3 three months or so ago (lymph node involvement and a rising PSA triggered his return to ADT). His PSA was 13.4 at the start of therapy. Two months later, it dropped to 1.7 . Two weeks ago it went down to 1.3.

Does such a slow down of the rate of PSA decline indicate that hormone resistance is setting in, or does it simply mean we have to wait for more PSA tests to tell? We were hoping to be under 0.5 three and a half months in, but... we'll take any decline we can get.

It just means that PSA and HT treatments can frustrate our best hopes and expectations.

Give it more time.

and for now, I'd throw a party to celebrate the drop.

I think it can many different things but what's important is that it is still moving in the right direction. I agree with Andrew that your father needs to give it more time.

Arthur, it is not unusual for the first hormone injection to show a large drop and then it slows very incrementally. It's a good thing that he is now below a 4. In my case, I went from a 511 at Dx to a 4.7 in 4 months. It then went to a 2.6 in the next 4 months and never went lower than 0.7 over the next 8 years . . . Q

Thanks quincy17, Almost a 10, and InTheShop, for your weigh-in. Yeah, we'll take any and all decreases, for as long as we can, and it's good to hear your experiences, it gives us hope and puts expectations in perspective!!
