Wow! What dosage in mg? It's most common use OTC in the states is allergy or cold symptoms as an antihistamine, histamine release by the body being what causes so many cold/allergy symptoms. I occasionally take 25 mg(1 pill of the OTC ones I have) at bedtime if I want to make sure I get a solid sleep. Or, I have some Tylenol(acetaminophen) P.M. with 12.5 mg/pill, and I occasionally take those at bedtime maybe with some Naproxen if I want to lessen the odds that my hip pain will keep me awake.
But I try not to take it too often due to- as with most drugs of course- possible long term side negative effects.
But now there is a possible great new benefit- new to me anyway!

Receiving hypnotic prescript
ions was associated with greater than threefold increased hazards of death even when prescribed <18 pills/year. This association held in separate analyses for several commonly used hypnotics and for newer shorter-acting drugs. Control of selective prescript
ion of hypnotics for patients in poor health did not explain the observed excess mortality"
