Hi
This is my take regarding needle sizes,
I started with Caverject 2 years ago, I used a 1/2" x 30g for about 8 months without any issues. Due to change in insurance, I had to switch to trimix since the new insurance didn't cover Caverject.
Most of my issues began 3 months afterwards, I had some shrinkage and I started to have pain bulging and bruising with the 1/2" needle. I switched to 5/16" (8mm) and it worked for some months. I went to an urologist and he said it was the needle, he said that they use 1/2" in their office without any problems. My issues continue, I decided to use 3/8" (I thought if the 1/2" is to long and the 5/16" to short, I will use 3/8"). No way, I was still getting bruised every time.
I wanted to try a smaller needless, I researched the available sizes and the only available size with a 31 gage was the 15/64" (6mm). I went to a walking in medical center and I explained the situation to the doctor. He said he was not familiar with penile injections so he had to find out, he called the pharmacy and they told him that the usual was 6/15", but this was left to each individual.
I got the 15/64" 6mm syringes and it worked.
A month after, read in this site how pumping before injecting helps you see better where to place the injection. I used the 6mm to try pumping and of course it failed badly.
So if you're going to pump beforehand, use the 5/16" (8mm), if you are going to inject flaccid use the 15/64" 6mm.
But no matter what you use, in most cases, the ingredients in trimix will create plaque.
I wish I could have stayed with Caverject.
