Increase in prostate surgery vs mortality rate drops?

Hey folks,

I have been searching for some firm numbers but can not find any. It is well touted since PSA testing less men have died per year from prostate cancer. What I am trying to find is how does this correlate against the amount of men having their prostate removed??? I can find many studies showing the rate of deaths per year but what I want to know is how many more men per year are having their prostates cut out to save those lives? Does anyone know if these numbers are available??

The book "Invasion of the Prostate Snatchers" by Mark Schultz, MD has more stats along these lines than any other one resource I've been able find.

The numbers of unnecessary surgeries are astounding. (So much so, they're unbelievable).

I too, have had serious problems finding the info you're looking for.

Thanks Island time, I was 36 and had a PSA test by mistake and it was high (3.3). He retested me with a free psa test in a month and it was 2.8 FPSA 22%. He told me it was prostatatis..... that test has haunted me and may always. Im 39 now and still worry about it but to be honest I worry the experts were as sure as they should have been.

I am one of those guys that avoided an unnecessary surgery because of information I found on this forum that led me to Dr. Schultz. I've been on AS for almost 18 moths now and I honestly don't even think I have (or had) what should be considered Pca.
