Just thought this might be worth posting....

I was talking to a friend yesterday, about his dad, who was diagnosed with G9 in 2002. He had open RP. His Post op pathology confirmed G9 (not sure if it was 4+5 or 5+4) and cancer was OUTSIDE the prostate.

After the surgery, no additional treatment was recommended, which i found strange, with a G9 and ECE, maybe he had negative margins, not sure. But its a fact. He's been taking a multitude of supplements since the surgery, but no further treatment, no radiation, etc.

Today, he is good. He had undetectable PSA up until about a year ago, then had a series of small rises. Had a short course of HT. His PSA remains at a very low level, and remains stable.
THIRTEEN YEARS!!!

Just thought this might be uplifting to some guys.

that's just what i needed to hear, too, although it seems as though surgery is not an option for my husband. we'll see what the oncologist has to say.

Thank you for that, Prato. Considering the possible negative effects of salvage treatment, I guess that's why my surgeon has not yet recommended any further treatment for me. For all of us, time will tell. But that is encouraging news. And apparently at least his supplements have not caused him to do any worse, since I don't see how he could have done any better.

Great story. Thanks for sharing it. It is strange that he didn't have some adjunct treatment soon after his surgery.

Missing from the story is the mans PSA history, his pathology reports, and the all important first PSA test after his surgery...Is this person continent? How about posting his list of supplements....Please shine some light into the dark corners here...

Yes, there's a lot of unanswered questions, but I think the story here is that PC--even somewhat aggressive forms of it like a G9--shouldn't freak people out. I will be the first to acknowledge that many of my fellow G9 PC brothers haven't been as lucky as I. By the time that they were diagnosed, they may have already had mets or other cancer spread that's led to widespread disease. And there are a handful of us where it looks manageable, but over the course of treatment it just didn't turn out that way.

But for many of us--I'd say for most of us--this is either 1) something that can be cured or 2) something that can be managed for a very long time.

Thanks for the story, even though details are missing. For me the impotprtant thing is G9 and still going strong at 13 years!
When I was first diagnosed, I had no idea that I could be where I am now after only 2.5 years and thinking more in the double digits for additional years of survival.

Michael hit it on the head. The point is that while we'd all rather be a G6, me included, a higher Gleason, yes, even a G9, even one that's escaped the capsule, can be controlled for a loong time.

@Fairwind, sorry, I am not sure what supplements he is taking and am not in a position to ask for a list. I do know that included in the list is Tumeric, Pomegranate , and I think Aca Berry.

I believe he is continent , but lost his erectile function and never got it back. Don't forget, surgery was a lot different 13 years ago.
His first PSA was undetectable. I don't know if that was with, or if they even had, the ultra sensitive test back then.
Wish I could provide more data, but like I said, I can't ask too many questions.

I wanted to share this for both the G9 guys, especially the newer ones, and also for everyone here who has gone through this in the last few years and worries about the future every time they go for a PSA blood draw. I know I take some comfort from it, as my. July test approaches was, I hope others get the same benefit
