second opinion visit - what can i expect?

Most of you know my situation and since I have been diagnosed with low grade PC I have decided to seek a second opinion. I have an appointment 7-1-15 with a urologist with the Winship Cancer Group at St Joseph in Atlanta. I have had all my records and results sent to them to look over. I hope to go the AS route at this time. Since this is all new to me what can I expect on my first visit? Will they just take the other doctor's word and results for it or will they do their own examinations and battery of tests?

Kudos for looking into the AS route. When you do speak to these people, if you are advised against AS, make sure to ask them what they would consider to be appropriate for AS. There are still many medical professionals (urologists, radiologists, etc.) who are fundamentally opposed to AS, and you want to make sure this is not the reason for the advice.

In my case, my PSA dropped from 9.6 to 1.0 after my TURP, the procedure that found the cancer. This did not impress the surgeon I had first contacted, who still wanted to go though with the surgery. When I contacted another urologist for a second opinion, he agreed with the first urologist. When I resisted his advice stating my desire to wait until the next PSA to see if it will move, my sister scolded me, saying that I was just shopping around trying to find someone who will agree with me.

This happened three years ago, and I am still on AS. My PSA has been hovering around 1.0 the entire time, and the annual mp-MRI I undergo continues to be negative.
