Jd,
It sounds like UCLA is opting for a very conservative treatment plan, one that is not attempting a cure, but only to slow things down. In your message, it sounds like they are planning casodex, then Lupron, which will slow the progression. If your dad wants a more aggressive treatment plan, radiation (seeds, beam, or proton) with Lupron would seem to be a plan that could be done with curative intent. Doesn't mean that it WILL cure him, but it will be attempted. Also, with the radiation, they could also focus on the single bone metastasis. This is being done now when there are few metastases showing (think it's less than 5). This approach helped me, and my disease was further progressed at diagnosis.
You may want to redo the appointment at Marina Del Rey - they are known to be among the more aggressive treatment advocates. You will never know until you try, but a conservative program is not going to get you the 'brass ring', only a longer ride. Understand, the more aggressive treatments come with their own side effects, also. But many of us wanted to buy the lottery ticket instead of waiting.
