You should edit this post and put what you are looking for in the subject line. Lots of people will chime in if they know what you are searching for :)

Alternative treatments in what situation? I.e., newly diagnosed, recurrent, metastatic...? In addition to or instead of?

Hello All:
Here is Aqua's first post with us which she had on an old thread:
"Hello..my husband is in Mexico getting treated for prostate cancer at San Diego clinic with Dr. Munoz...we have been here for six weeks and results are dissapointing..he feels good and thinks he's somewhat improved but his PSA is still 150...down from 170 when we arrived. We are looking at other clinics and one that does focused hyperthermia is of interest..at 21 day program for 27 thousand dollars...BioCare....these numbers are not type o's....he had a color doppler ultrasound two weeks ago that showed the cancer is still in the prostate..he has to use a catheter to empty his bladder although he can get a bit out on his own..my question is if anyone has experience with clinics in Mexico..good or bad? He was in Munich Germany for six weeks last year and the treatment and vaccinations seemed to work at first but symptoms soon came back. Dr. Munoz now has him using a hormone blocker orally...he has had Lupron shots in the past..he has been getting Curcumin IV's that will be continued when we go home..also from Dr. Munoz..of course if we change clinics we won't be doing the Curcumin IV...Any comments, suggestions, etc..are appreciated..

Hello, Aqua and welcome. As you can see I've moved your post to this new thread so that hopefully you can get some more answers. It may help if you can provide a little more info about
your husband beyond the PSA, e.g. his detailed biopsy results, his age, etc.
I know zero about
this alternative Mexican treatment that he is getting but must admit my first question is why you have chosen this route instead of going to an expert in the USA where his treatment may be covered by insurance. There have been great strides in treating prostate cancer in the past several years. I guess I'm just puzzled why you would choose the "alternative" route first w/o trying a more traditional approach. Of course, maybe you have tried a more traditional approach and we just don't know about
it - hence my request that you give us some more info.

Here is what Ed is talking about
when he referenced Steve Jobs:

If "Alternative Treatments" worked, they would be the front-line, main-line treatment........

Yes, one think they would be more mainstream...and again, where's the science? Maybe as complimentary medicine the will prove to be of more value, but we need more science.

Curcumin always looks great in lab studies and seems to heal every mouse they inject it into - if only we were mice! The big problem is bioavailability. iv curcumin gets around the first barrier, which is the gut. But then there's the second barrier - the liver. The liver pretty well eliminates it all. Researchers are working on variants of curcumin that can bypass liver metabolism, and maybe someday, one of those will prove useful. Not even the biggest curcumin advocates think that it alone will cure him - but if it doesn't hurt him - why not?
I agree with Jim that with all the great new treatments in the least few years, why mess around in the minor leagues? There are clinical trials of new treatments that have a real legitimate basis for hoped for efficacy. If you have a gambling nature, they are a much better bet than some guy in Tijuana. Do the alternative treatments
in addition to
rather than
instead of
the best treatments out there.
Other than a high PSA, has he had any other diagnostics. or treatments other than hyperthermia?
