Newly diagnosed prostate ca gleason 9 no mets /fox chase

Good Morning everyone.
Husband made it through surgery. The lymph and biopsied tissues were negative per the surgeon. I have not seen any actual patthology reports with my own eyes. I will find out how to get them monday when I call to make followup appt with urologist. Visiting nurse coming today to go over catheter: leg bag overnite bag. So far no pain. He took tylenol es yesterday. Does anyone know if the pathology ever changes after closer examination of tissue? Trying to prepare myself mentally. When I first wake up in morning it hits me.

In the song Scarborough Fair -- you know, the folk song that Simon and Garfunkle sang with "Parsley, sage, rosemary and Thyme" -- the singer is offering to take back his lover if she will just perform a series of impossible tasks -- make him a shirt with no stitches or needle work, or buy him an acre of land between the sea and the sand. I often think of that song when we tell people in your situation not to worry.

It is good news that the surgeon's impression of the tissues removed was favorable but, as you suspect, there is some possibility that the actual pathology report will change things one way or the other. Some sort of clinically significant difference from the pre-op diagnoses happens about one-third of the time. Sometimes the change is for the worse but sometimes it is for the better. You just have to wait and see.

When the nurse gave me the package with my leg bag she opened it before she handed it to me and took out the extension tube for the leg bag and threw it in the trash. It is a standing order from the urologists at the hospital that patients are not to be given extension tubes to take home. Apparently they snag on things and come apart and the patient winds up whizzing all over everything.

My preferred way to rig the leg bag was to wear it strapped to the inside of my thigh with a couple of windings of self-adherent wrap to hold the tubing so it didn't tug. If you go to an outdoor supplies store -- something like REI -- you should be able to find "convertible" hiking pants with a zipper at the knee to turn them into shorts. That knee zipper is at exactly the right place to get at the drain tube for the leg bag. While I was out and about with the leg bag I was able to pee standing up as God intended.

Hang in there. Glad to hear the surgeons initial thoughts were positive. I was told it could take a week to get my labs back. It took 2 1/2 days. The pathology can change from biopsy to post surgery pathology. See my signature. BTW, I'm only 6 weeks out myself. Hang in there. The fact you are here is a big plus. I wish I would have found this site before my surgery. Once again, hang in there. Don't be shy about taking help from the people you're close to.

WTWS- the downgrade to G7(4+3) is indeed terrific news. And with negative margins (I assume that's what was meant when you said lymph nodes and ALL TISSUE were negative), it seems he is in great shape, as far as prognosis goes.
The hydrocele doesn't seem like a serious issue from what ice read. But of course, who the hell wants more surgery, it's natural that your husband would be upset.

My hubby had prolific drainage from his JP incision area for 4 WEEKS! If your husbands drainage continues, consider asking for a urostomy bag. It has a bag with a drain and you can measure the output. My husband had so much drainage that we were changing bandages every hour or so. His skin reacted to the constant removal of tape. Finally the doctor ordered him urostomy bags and they did the trick. Apparently draining for a month is not common though.
