The exciting conclusion.....
First, thanks all for your input. I really appreciate every note.
Right after posting the original entry starting this thread, Saturday night, I peed a bit more, but in fits and starts. No sleep of course. The following day I had set aside for a 10-mile run. I started not to do it, because I felt so bad, but it meant a lot to get to this point before surgery, so I ran it. It was a slog, Flomax makes it hard, 90 degrees F. + high humidity, blah blah. Anyway, I drank a lot afterward and expected to pee at least some of it out. Nothing doing.
I wound up calling the URO on-call that night (Sunday night) and told him what my input/output was. He told me to get to the ER immediately. I tried to console myself that the cath would be a 'dry run' for getting my post-RP cath, but it wasn't very consoling at all.
But I lucked out. A couple of very good ER docs got me to talk a lot about the previous few days, and when I told them I wasn't in terrible pain, they decided I might be dehydrated. They US/scanned my bladder and got a 21. Based on that, they gave me 1000cc's IV fluids, and let that percolate until I voided, which they measured, then scanned again. I got Zero. They gave me 1000 more, and repeated the steps. Residual was reasonable.
I was sent home, crazy from sleep deprivation (3 or 4 nights without), but very glad to have not been cathed.
So I had not been peeing because my tissues had been soaking up everything I was taking in. I had probably been in an ongoing dehydrated condition for quite a while. I know that I'd been drinking less, because I was worried about the holiday from Flomax, and wanted to see the flow restored before I started drinking more. I had been running under these conditions. While being dehydrated no doubt made my running worse, it was also attributable to Flomax, so I hadn't considered it.
I've been hydrating like crazy in the mornings now, and so far all has been well.
But I'm not going to take any more drug holidays!
