This post is in a follow-up to a
previous thread in which I expressed concern that my Finasteride-adjusted PSA had jumped 33% in one year. I had my annual visit with my Urologist yesterday and following is an account of what transpired:
First a PA came in, introduced herself, and said the uro would be following shortly. She asked a few generic questions (like, did I have a pneumonia shot? [no]) and then noticed that my PSA had risen to 1.2 from 0.9 a year earlier. She seemed concerned and said that
on Finasteride the PSA should have remained the same. She then left the room and told me she would inform the uro about
it. A few minutes later the uro came in and didn't seem concerned at all. He asked me about
family history and I informed him that my half-brother died of PC. He asked if we had the same father (no). He then asked about
the age difference between us (16 years). He was not concerned but said we could do whatever I wanted to "set my mind at ease," like a biopsy or anything else, and I said if he wasn't concerned about
the rise then it was good enough for me. He then said that we could continue the annual follow-ups and he would see me next year. He didn't even do a DRE. So that's where it stands as of now, next PSA test with follow-up visit in one year.
