Hi All, I have been reading for hours and have learned so much from you guys. I have not been diagnosed with PC yet but i am scared I will be soon. I have had an enlarged prostate for a few years and I am 42. I have all the symptoms of enlarged prostate like, weak stream, and frequency. I have had prostate infections in the past and have taken my Cipro and been done with it. A few weeks ago I noticed at the end of my urine stream a small drop of blood came out. I freaked out and went to my Dr and had a DRE and urine test. He put my on Cipro thinking it was an infection but the next day told me there was no sign of infection and to stop taking the Cipro. I then went to a Uro and they had me take a urine test as well and no blood is showing in my urine. (both tests have shown this to be true) I dont actually see any blood in my stream ever but a few times I see a drop after I am done. They have ordered a CT scan for next week to make sure everything is looking ok and then I go for a scope and flow test the following week. I am so scared I have PC because of the blood i saw. I have not had a PSA test yet and will have one in 2 weeks. it possible I just have BPH or am I looking at PC?

HI pain!!! Sorry you have had to stumble into our club, but you couldn't have found a better place!!

I can't say with any certainty if you do or don't have PCa. What I can say is relax. It sounds like you have a history of enlarged prostate and/or prostatitis. Blood in urine can be any number of things, and yes including prostate cancer. Just curious, why are they waiting on the PSA? I see you had the DRE, did that come back negative I assume?

I guess, what I"m saying is, relax, wait for the test results but it's not only possible, but dare I say probable that you have BPH and not PCa.

Thanks! After reading everyones story I am so freaked out and scared. He did say the DRE felt fine other than being a little big.

Welcome to HW.

First, PC has almost no symptoms. Blood is more likely due to an infection, BPH or something. You have something for sure, but PC is low on the list if at all. Certainly, nothing you've mentioned clearly points to PC.

I'd be very surprised if you have any PC. Hopefully the scan and scope will show what the problem really is.

Normally they won't discuss PC as a possibility until all other causes have been ruled out.

Where you are now is pure speculation and you need more information. The best I can say is, "Good thing you're getting it checked out."

Thanks for the responses. It does make me feel at least a little better about things. As all of you know the worrying is one of the worst parts. I hope this is just a scare and I will be on top of this moving forward. I am also going to be spreading the word to all my friends who never go to the DR. This forum has opened my eyes.

It's so easy to say...relax, take a breath, and go through the testing process.
Two years ago this time I was in your shoes, had to wait through Christmas to
do a biopsy...neither was fun (wait or biopsy). I had to really work to keep my
anxiety under "control". I did not find this place until well after I was diagnosed
with PC.

But, it's what you need to do. Right now, all you know is that you have something going
on with your urinary tract. Far from having a diagnosis of cancer. Enjoy your family and
the holidays. You have for sure found the right place to come,
ask questions, and vent.

I was also wondering why the wait for PSA?

I really have no idea on the PSA. My uro just didnt even seem to worry about it. I will be pushing for it in 2 weeks when i am in there. It wasnt until I came here that i realized it shoud have been done. Also getting the CT scan first leads me to think that they are looking for issues other than PC right now.

Remember that PSA is not a test for cancer. It simply will tell you how much prostate tissue there is. The number may or may not be useful to your doctor at this point. Likely why your URO wasn't concerned about it. If you PSA is high, it could just be confirming you have BPH.

The scan and scope are more likely to find the source of the bleeding than a blood test.
