The article is late. Two devices (Sonablate and Ablatherm) have already been approved for prostate tissue ablation. No doubt, they are already being marketed for prostate cancer treatment.

Allen, I thought that I had read that it was approved about
a month or two. Then I saw this article, and It was just recently published.
Is the evidence saying it's as good in cure and SEs as the Dr in the article claims? I do hope so, he makes the commentvthatvitvwill greatly reduce the number of surgeries done for low risk PC, which would be terrific. I know there is a longer history in Europe

In fact, apparently it is already being offered at MSKCC...but as a "clinical trial"

There is no credible evidence yet. It's only been approved for tissue ablation, not PC treatment, but it can and is being used off-label for that purpose. It should only be used in the context of a clinical trial, but that hasn't been happening. There are many issues.

Been available in Europe for over 20 years but not well known and by far no standard treatment.
Copy from the german Wikipedia:
Die HIFU-Therapie bei Prostatakrebs wurde erstmals 1993 in Frankreich durchgeführt. Seit 1996 ist die Methode auch in Deutschland verfügbar. Bis zum Juli 2009 wurden in 218 HIFU Zentren weltweit 20.000, in Deutschland 6150 Therapien vorgenommen.
Translated to english:

Well known/widely used in the UK as well I understand... that doesn't mean it's effective of course!

Had a friend who did this (South Carolina doctor performed in the Bahamas) five years ago. He still has periodic incontinence problems. Plus insurance would not cover , so he's out 30 g's......

Had looked into HIFU earlier this year. Results published from European studies did not look tremendous.
