Came across this older report (presumably still relevant) on the use of repeated dilation or internal urethrotomy for urethra strictures

Here is one of the leading authorities in the world on urethral strictures, Dr. Joel Gedman. His mantra is "if you've had the stricture dialated once and it comes back you need reconstructive surgery". It looks like a fairly involved surgery but at least you would be in the hands of a real expert. I actually talked to him on the phone, he's more than willing to do phone consults, but he wasn't in my insurance network so it would have been to expensive to use him.

Yes, he also says no dilation technique is associated with any significant long term success and
dilation is generally a management tool.
If management does the job then that's fine too as I read there is also a risk of incontinence with reconstructive surgery.
My Insurance would not cover that either.

I think surgery prevention should be higher on the list ..like admitting the patient early while a dilation procedure still works rather than waiting and then surgery due to stricture blockage'
