All that is true, but one of the arguments that was made to the FDA is that neither surgery nor radiation, which can be considered ancient and grandfathered treatments for PCa, ever had to prove their effectiveness in the protocols that the HIFU manufacturers were being subject to. So, to acknowledge that hurdle, the approval was of HIFU being a surgical instrument, analogous to a knife. A knife is dependent on the skill of the surgeon. HIFU is now allowed to have the same playing field.
Not saying that I am a HIFU advocate, but they never would have received any clearance, given the original burden placed on them.
