Suppressing the nuclear receptor protein ROR-y with small-molecule compounds can reduce androgen receptor (AR) levels in castration-resistant prostate cancer.

It's tantalizing to think of the cobblestone path that researchers are now laying down, stone by stone ... for other fellows like us to walk upon one day --- a LONGER treatment path !

I don't think I've got the words to express my gratitude to those researchers, working far into the night --- striving to find the next breakthrough in prostate cancer that will change the treatment landscape. Can they even sleep at night when they get home, realizing their research MIGHT be the next breakthrough that could ultimately help thousands of patients someday ? Think of the burden of responsibility that rests upon their shoulders as they research ... the keen intellect that it takes to invent the next medication that can take all of us a step further.

I honestly want to shake the hand of every researcher who is devoting themselves to advancements in this field for all of us ... and the fellows who have fearlessly participated in the clinical trials through the years to help prove the effectiveness of the breakthrough treatments that are now helping me and many of us here on this forum.

Some months ago, I read an article that hailed these past few years as "The Golden Age Of Prostate Cancer Research" --- and this past decade HAS brought important and lasting breakthroughs ... both medications and changes in treatment sequences and recommendations ...

Another article I once read said that prostate cancer patients of today are now living in a time where subtle advances in treatments, treatment protocols, and new medication options are emerging at a rate that changes the treatment landscape as often as every six months --- painfully slow progress at times, but I know the long-time veterans of this website HAVE witnessed amazing changes in prostate cancer treatments over the past decade ...

I represent the third generation of men in my family who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer ... my grandfather, my father, and now me. This has given me a different viewpoint, a different vantage point ... remembering back to my grandfather's diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer in the 1970s when I was growing up in my hometown. Looking back, I realize there was nothing offered to him as far as treatments ... no Taxotere chemotherapy infusions, no radiation treatments, no breakthrough prescription medications ...

We all are waiting for those "next step" treatments to emerge in the next few months or years. There is new research going on morning, noon, and night somewhere on this globe --- 'round the clock, weekends, and holidays. Somewhere, someone right now is making SOME discovery in some science laboratory that is eventually going to lead researchers forward in the field of prostate cancer research. Even though progress sometimes seems painfully slow to those of us who "watch and wait" for the next treatment to emerge, I DO see a tremendous progression in the amount of treatment options and medications that are now available to me, compared to what was offered to my grandfather in the 1970s during my boyhood years.

I know I feel fortunate right now to have benefited from the "early chemo" treatment plan that emerged for me in the summer of 2014 --- I had to wait a few months after being diagnosed in order to qualify for that plan to take effect for me, following the release of the CHAARTED study. Currently, new breakthrough medications such as XTANDI and XOFIGO have been helping friends of mine, just when they needed it the most ... and ZYTIGA has continued to help me in the months after I finished chemo treatments. These options certainly didn't exist 10 years ago ... and some have emerged in just the past 5 years ...

We have ALL played our own part here, fellows ... the sharing of our collective experiences ... our stories ... our treatment plans ... our experiences with side effects ... treatment ideas ... the sharing of data ... information ... personal expertise ... opinions ... moral support ... downfalls ... successes ... friendship ... BROTHERHOOD !

What's the next treatment breakthrough ? Will it emerge this year ? I'm wondering ... I'm waiting ... it's a tantalizing thought ... and maybe tonight I will lose a bit of sleep, while some of those researchers are working in their labs late into the night, as I continue to ponder the possibilities and promise of future research.

The drugs used to make this happen already exist or are in advanced development. They are well tolerated by patients receiving them. Using them to treat advanced PC should be fast tracked instead of moving along at the glacial pace most cancer research seems to follow....

I don't see information in the article on a clinical trial. I searched the NIH site and only found three PC trials at UC Davis. None of them seem to be what this announcement is about. Anyone know of a trial?
