AMS800

In April 2015 I had the AMS800 installed after two failed Advanced Male Slings, also AMS products. I was hoping the artificial sphincter would last for many years. I have really enjoyed being pad free for ten months. Then four weeks ago I was out gardening and found I had a bad leak. Things got worse, up to three pads a day. I saw my surgeon in Sydney ( a 500km drive ) and an ultrasound showed the reservoir was holding only half the original volume. Two weeks ago I had a CT scan, and that couldn't even detect the reservoir! So next month I am having he device replaced. No charge for the device, but I'm up for accommodation and travel expenses. AMS should guarantee their produce and I reckon they should pay for all the expenses incurred as a result of their dodgy device.

Well, back home after the AMS800 revision. My surgeon tested the cuff for leakage first and found that it did indeed have a leak. He replaced only the cuff as the other components are only 10 months old. The device will be activated again in four weeks time when everything has had a chance to heal up. Just hoping that the leak in the cuff was the only leak!!

One of the things I struggle with here on the forum is terminology. Here is the US we simply say "lawyer" and let the sub-specialties sort themselves out as they wish. There are other parts of the English-speaking world where suggesting one "get a lawyer" is said as "retain a solicitor." But however it is said it might be something you should consider. That cuff should not have failed in less than a year and you are out quite a bit of money as a result of the failure, even with AMS picking up the cost of the device. You might be wise to seek legal advice to understand your rights in the matter.
