I met with Dr. Hornback and based on that discussion, it sounds like the longer term (8-9 weeks) IMRT is what I am leaning towards at this time. SBRT seemed to have some additional risk involved and I would need HDR internal radiation where they put needles into your prostate and inject radiation twice in one day, but no seeds are left behind.

One component that I realize I have not mentioned, and I believe it to be important, is I had a 4K score done while I was in Indy having a consult and it came back with a very high 57%.

So I am having a new PSA test done today to see if it has jumped significantly since February.

I'll let you know the results.

I had a new PSA test done and my PSA was down to 7.64, a considerable drop from 9.73 in February. I was concerned that it might have gone up quite a bit knowing I had a 4Kscore of 57% back in March. Anyway at this point I am planning on 45 treatments of IMRT starting in about three weeks after they place the gold markers.

PSA bouncing around month to month happens all the time. You really need to look at PSA velocity/doubling time over years.

I agree with Halbert - go to Chicago. One of our HW members, 0311, recently investigated some of the top guys in Chicago:
SBRT-Dr.Arica Hirsch at Lutheran General
HDR BT-Dr.Stanley Liauw,University of Chicago Medical Center
LDR BT-Dr.Brian Moran-Chicago Prostate Center

He decided on Arica Hirsch, but I think they all are good choices.

I don't know of any reason nowadays to go through 40-44 IMRT treatments, other than to make a doctor rich.

I spoke with Dr. Arica Hirsch today and she seemed to feel that Cyberknife (SBRT) should work out well for me. There is also a Cyberknife in Ft. Wayne at ParkView Regional Medical center which would be much closer for me. It appears that the Dr. there id Dr. Brian K. Chang. I am planning on calling there tomorrow. Is anybody familiar with Dr. Chang or the ParkView Medical Center? Any input would be appreciated.
