Dropped health insurance

I retried last month after they spent about $250000 on me. Dr stated that palliative care is my only course. Will see the VA in Denver on 8th of July to hear what they recomend. If I don't like it I will be 65 on Medicare and pick up a supplemental. Wish me luck.

Have you checked into SS disability? Stage IV prostate cancer is on the "list" of covered diagnoses and may help with expenses.

Congratulations on your retirement. Pick up all the supplemental. Humana and AARP. Gary is on SSI Medicare, by my guess is you will be approved for everything and with supplemental little or no out of pocket. It may cost you less, who knows. I like your wife's attitude

You can stay on your present plan under COBRA until you get to the VA or onto Medicare. The cost will be higher than when you were an employee, but you should consider it for continuous coverage and the same docs you have been working with. In the first two months you don't need to pay premiums unless you actually have a claim. How is your wife covered? Does she still need your employer sponsored plan?

Regardless of whether you use the VA, it sounds like you will have Medicare and will have to pay into Medicare B and have a D prescription drug plan. You can sign up three months before the month you turn 65. You either use B+D+ Supplement Plan, or you sign up for a Medicare Advantage (C) plan. They are all very different and you need to make the determination before you are ready to enroll.
