Hi David, good to hear from you too.
Yes, dilation is best and another Urethrotomy is an option if needed, but I would get metal sound dilation done first at an early stage. I don't see the point in Urethraplasty in my case at this time when sphincter damage is the outcome.
I originally thought sphincter damage was only a possibility.
The main cause of the stricture after
open RP seems to be either the stitching was too tight or urinary leakage at the join.
My urologist said it was because I heal too quickly.
Another Urologist said that a stricture was less likely to happen with robotic RP due to the magnification ...I guess that means you are also a rare case
I agree recurring strictures seem to be uncommon ..perhaps I should have posted this under a separate topic.
One Urologist stated that he has patients happily doing daily dilation for years ..not sure how you happily do that!
I find the stricture is tighter after a week compared to daily dilation so I think it would be risky for me to stop as the stricture has closed twice already. The symptoms were lower back pain and painfull urination for 3 or 4 weeks prior to it closing.
Congrats on your successful Urethrotomy. To ease your mind I was having urinary retention symptoms two weeks after the RP and Urethrotomy. Dilation only started after the second Urethrotomy.
