One other note about
AS protocols Mitch....they're not all created equal. Protocols are designed around available technology where the protocol is. In my own case (and I don't remember the specifics) but there's no scanning involved. (No machines here). So you have the quarterly PSA and a biopsy for the 1st year. Then bi-annual psa's and blind biopsies are moved to every 2 years. Rinse, repeat, rinse...until 80 years old. So goes the AS program my uro is a part of. Psychologically, that just didn't float my boat.
The more progressive (and even conservative) health institutions have a more warm and fuzzy approach. You will get the latest scans, targeted biopsies, blood work, etc. Because they have the latest equipment and are more experienced with AS, they may be able to impart more confidence in your treatment.
Good luck man
OK....sorry....I just read about
your defibrulator issue. Take what you will from my post.
The bottom line is....you need an AS program with doctors you trust. Going it alone can be tough psychologically....in effect....one is one's own doctor. With cancer...even the "tame" stuff...that could be tough duty. just sayin'
