I'm sure we all heard the news about the passing of Arnold Palmer, famous golfer and famous prostate cancer survivor. I'm not certain of his exact diagnosis, but reading thru a couple articles today, I found that he had RP in January of 1997 and 20 months later, in October 1998, SRT (because of rising PSA).

I am not sure what he died of, but I assume he died with PCa and not of it. While it is sad news, the "good" news is that he was heading towards 20 years post initial treatment (RP).

R.I.P Mr. Palmer.

Sad day to lose such a wonderful man. I imagine his PCa was well behind him. Probably more important was that he was a heavy smoker for a very long time bringing with it risks and the environmental issues of living on golf courses back in the day before very dangerous chemicals were not well regulated. My father in law was a golf professional and I remember some of the stuff we used on the course back in the 60's isn't used today.

But, at age 87 Arnold was well past the average so he and his family did a lot of things very well. It was apparent that over the last year or so he changed quite a bit. So tonight let's all toast the famous drink he invented in his honor.

I remember reading some comments by Arnold about his prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment while I was awaiting my own treatment back in 2010. In his comments, he mentioned that one of his fellow patients was a 29-year-old.

Arnie obviously did well after treatment. It would be interesting to know what became of the younger man.

Arnie was such an inspirational character in so many ways. He had considerable influence on my life, not only in inspiring me to take up the game of golf 50 years ago, which I continue to enjoy, but in other ways as well.

I sure do remember "Arnie's Army" very well.

Used to caddie back in the late 50's - early 60's and followed him closely.

Thanks for the links. I did not know that Arnie had PCa or promoted awareness and sponsored treatment centers. He was a great man and great for the game. My club had our course redesigned by his company in 2011. He'll be missed !!
