Phase III trial for men with metastatic disease using RP or RT definitive therapy

This trial has no number yet. Just mentioned at the NEAUA meeting. Brian Chapin at MDAnderson will be Principal Investigator through SWOG. Men diagnosed with metastases will have systemic treatment=AD+chemo (Slide is hard to read) OR chemo+AD+RP or RT to prostate. Progression and overall survival are endpoints (again, according to the slide.) Not fully prepared for announcement so sorry for the fog of information.

So what are we trying to determine here..?? Will surgery or radiation treatment extend the survival of men who have metastases when they are diagnosed ?

Put another way, can surgery or radiation help (extend the lives) of men whose cancer has already left the barn when they are diagnosed?

Put a third way, does attacking the primary tumor somehow help men whose cancer has metastasized ?

I believe the one I am considering is a phase II trial that has been ongoing for 4 years and led by Dr. Chapin. It is for treatment of the primary tumor in recently diagnosed metastatic men who have had upfront chemo and ADT and elect to attack the primary tumor with either radiation or surgery upfront. 50% are monitored without treatment of the primary tumor and 50% get treatment.
