My husband had 1st Zometa Nov. 16 with terrible side effects afterwards for 36 hours. Tomorrow he will change to Xgeva instead of Zometa. What is your experience with these 2 treatments. His insurance has approved payment of both but our research indicates Xgeva may have better results.

He will have CT , MRI, and bone scan Jan. 4. to see how Lupron (Swedish Hospital doesn't do Firmagon unfortunately), Zytiga, prednisone and Zometa/Xgeva are doing.Will add Xofigo after those tests if appropriate.

Hi Anniesea, I can't speak to Xgeva but I have had Zometa infusions. I can say that after the 1st infusion I did have a long weekend of bone pain that really sucked but this was lessened greatly with the 2nd infusion. Bone pain only lasted about a day on the 2nd infusion. I have one more scheduled in March and I am hoping it is lessened even more. Good luck to you and your husband on your treatments. Hello to another wife and welcome to the HW forum!
My DH has been on xgeva for over six years with virtually no SEs believed to be associated with this particular med. He's on so many drugs, it's sometimes hard to know what causes what.
Hope your DH does better with it. One real precaution, though, and your MO may have already mentioned it. Xgeva can cause necrosis of jaw in lower jaw bone so make sure any dental work to lower teeth or loosening of teeth gets checked out by your medonc.
