I have searched and searched and just can't find a definite answer to this question.

Is it possible to have prostate cancer and prostatitis at the same time?

Prostatitis is an infection and I don't see why having cancer would preclude also having an infection. Not that you needed anything else to worry about...

Yes, of course. And it is often associated with lower risk PC.

Yes!! That was my story. I ride a lot of miles on my bicycle (2000 to 2500 a summer). Many autumns when I would have a physical my usual PSA of 1.9 or 2.0 would jump into the high 3 or low 4 range. I would do my 6 weeks of Cipro and it would go back to my normal. In 2011 after riding all summer my PSA in November was 5.2. Went on the usual Cipro for 6 weeks, but this time it only went down to 3.9. Urologist did DRE and found nothing and reccommended another round of Cipro. I actually said the heck with it and asked for a biopsy since in every other instance my PSA had always gone back to my normal. I just "felt" something wasn't right and wanted piece of mind. The rest is history.

Now Reltnie, you have made me begin to wonder. While I don't ride a motorcycle I do however drive a lot of miles. Being a preacher but also a school bus driver makes me wonder if I haven't wondered down the path you traveled. I originally didn't ask this question about my situation but was just asking generally because all the threads I have read I never saw someone ask this question.

My PSA dropped quite a bit after Cipro and antibotics but never below 3. I guess I opened up a door that I should have left closed. That's just great.

My situation was very unusual. Being only 44 did you even have a baseline PSA? Prostatitis is often hard to cure with just one round of Cipro and I see you only did a couple of weeks whereas I did six. I just got sick of the almost yearly worry and had just taken early retirement from teaching in June 2011 and just wanted an answer. The worry most every year was getting old. I'm no doctor (though I sometimes play one on TV). At your age and the fact your PSA dropped so much screams prostatitis, NOT cancer.

Before my journey began I did not have a baseline PSA. So it is possible that 3 could be my normal. With me averaging anywhere above 30k miles a year behind the wheel could compound my problem. I am fully confident that I do not have PCa but reading your story made me wonder. It is amazing how the mind can drive a person crazy.
