VA,
Just wanted you to know that I definitely empathize with you at this time since we are both in the process of trying to find a compelling reason to select a treatment for our disease. Since my biopsy and diagnosis in January, I have been persistently reading books, forums, and blogs plus watching videos that chronicle this journey from diagnosis to treatment and afterward. I find the educational process, while enlightening from a factual and statistical perspective, to be pretty frustrating for the simple reason that the science of prostate cancer treatment does not have a clear "winner". It all seems to come back to personal preference based on what you think is best in your unique circumstance. The trouble with that is that I don't really think my situation is particularly unique. I've read lots of accounts of guys with very similar stories to mine and their choices of treatment range all over the place. I am leaning toward surgery despite some concerns of the typical side effects. While I am at the top end of age when surgery is even an option, I am in good shape physically and emotionally and feel that I am up to the challenge. While it may be irrational, I am confident of beating the cancer, regaining continence, and regaining my sexual function (all three are quite important to me). I wish you the best in your search for the best answer. Should you happen upon information that you consider "game-changing", please email me and enlighten me. My email address is in my profile and I am in north Florida. Good luck.
