Something interesting I came across the other day.
There have been numerous theatrical-release motion pictures over the years with a cancer theme, such as "Terms of Endearment" or "50/50," as perhaps better known examples.
But I don't believe there has ever been, at least I have been unable to find one, any cancer-themed film in which
PCa and its impact has been the central theme. I did find mention of a number of PCa-themed TV dramas, especially some in the UK, but nothing like what one would call a "real movie."
Below is an interesting example of a relatively recent effort to do this it would seem, to make such a "PCa movie" that is not simply a documentary. It's a short production (only about
20 min.) but it does take the approach of telling a story, movie style, that involves PCa. (There may be some others like it around, short things perhaps, but I'm not sure).
This one is called "Father's Day," and was produced and released by Prostate Cancer UK in 2013, and is available for free viewing (again, it's only about
20 min. in length) on their website.
It would have to be called pretty basic and simple as movie stories go, but it actually is a movie with a PCa theme, and apparently it did receive an award at the Cannes Film Festival. (It got the Cannes Lions Award for 2014).
The film can be watched on that site by clicking link below, if you've got an extra 20 minutes. The story is simple, but the acting is good.
Best way to proceed, if you do want to watch it:
Click link below
Scroll down a bit until all of viewing box is on screen
Click to start film
As film begins, click enlarge icon (at bottom right of viewing box) so film fills screen
When film is over, click Esc to return to normal screen
