Second opinion and insurance

I'm just full of questions today...

Does Medicare and supplemental insurance cover a second opinion through Dr. Epstein at John Hopkin's or is it strictly self pay?

I can't answer for Medicare, but I've never had any trouble with my group insurance paying for multiple opinions. There must be a way to get it covered.

Even if you have to pay to have the slides re-read, it's not that expensive, maybe under $400? I had my slides sent to MD Anderson and they upped me from a Gleason 6 (3+3) to a 7 (3+4). MDA has completely managed/treated my PCa so I never saw a separate fee for reading the sildes.

My slides were sent to Epstein for a 2nd opinion on the biopsy, which is what I assume you're asking about. I had to pay out of pocket, about $250, back in 2013. It's surely gone up by now, but the additional confidence from that effort was worth every penny.
