Six month brachytherapy update

Hi guys I have just had my six month PSA results and wanted to post an update on my journey with ldr brachytherapy. My PSA is down from 2 to 0.7 so hopefully it looks as though everything is going in the right direction. Apart from a weak urine flow I have had very little side effects with this treatment and would recommend it for serious consideration as a treatment option for suitable candidates. In regards to my weak flow, it seems that my prostrate lobe has grown into my bladder and is causing an obstruction and it may be that I will need a procedure in the future to resolve this. If anyone has any experience of this I would welcome your input. Although my stream is weak I have not had to use a catheter and have managed on one flomax capsule per day from day one of my brachytherapy procedure so I'm hoping I can continue in the same vein in the future. Can anyone tell me what the optimum level of PSA I should be looking to achieve over the next three to six months?

Hi Scotsjohn. I'm glad for the great PSA results. Sounds like you are definitely headed in the right direction. I don't know anything about the bladder obstruction...was that an effect from the brachy or something else?

Re you expectations for the next 6 months, it's hard to say. Every one of us seems to react differently. At some point you should reach a nadir but the time for that to happen varies greatly. It took me six years! You also could experience some "bounce" along the way. So, just enjoy the downward trend and relish in the fact that you are likely cured.

Congrats on the PSA drop. I have a marginally weaker stream since my brachy (although it has HDR, not LDR) and find a Rapaflo 1-2 times/week does the job. But in my case I'm not aware of any obstruction, which does sound like a somewhat bigger issue.

Congrats again on the nice PSA number!

SJ: Yes! another Brachy Brother with a downward trend! I no nothing about your bladder obstruction. My comment to all on Flomax is be careful and read the instructions and potential side effects. Next, walk, and walk some more, making sure a daily exercise routine is part of the rest of your life. Please keep us posted and the very best to you.

Great news on the PSA. Your next test should be lower - that the best number.

I had the same problem that was resolved by a green light laser procedure that was done after external radiation and prior to Brachy. The ADT and radiation shrinkage, which was significant, didn't help with the offending "nub" I wouldn't have made it through Brachy if not done... ahh the memories btw, I had a minor trim only

As for the PSA, everyone is different, expect some bounce, although I've been steady with no change, going on 4 years
