It`s been 8 months since the 6 mo. Lupron shot was to be over. I realize the effects of the Lupron can go on for a long time........I`m at 165lbs. mini moobs....for about the last 2 months they have been sore and tender at the nipple area ....nothing like before the Lupron. Is this normal and does it go away ? Is there a drug that gets rid of the soreness without other side effects ?................PS still have the mini beer (Lupron) gut too

Sorry to hear about your SE s lingering on. Have you talked to doc about the tenderness? Maybe you could try some sort of topical salve for the tenderness if it's not anything the doc is alarmed about. Us gals use bag balm (not kidding) when nursing.
As far as the beer gut goes, I'd go with having a few brewskis. Why not? Can't beat em, join em.

You weren't on Lupron very long, just one 6 month shot if I understand correctly.

I had a similar issue after my 3 year stint on it. As my testosterone recovered, for a period from about 3 months to 6 or 7 months after the ADT "release", my breasts were tender. It did clear up, and hasn't happened since. At one point, it was uncomfortable to even sleep on my stomach. They had some twinges of pain now and then too. Strange. I think I did have a little growth from that too.

My onco is clueless about it. Has no idea.

I did read somewhere a theory that this suppression of testosterone may have long term effects. Your tissues adapt to the low T environment, and when it returns suddenly you respond as if it's excessive. Your body will convert (via "aromatization") the excess T into estrogen, and that's what's triggering your breast sensations. You're suddenly experiencing to some degree what women do at puberty, when their breasts begin to develop.

"Hormone therapy" seems rather benign when the doctors suggest it, but I think it plays havoc with us both in the short term and long term.

This post above sums the effect precisely. Lupron-like drugs fool the body to stop makng T by flooding the system with T-creating hormone signals (leutinizing hormone), generating a shutdown of gonad production. After this process is complete and testosterone rises organically the body is "fooled" again until a new point of stability is reached and estrogen aromatization is reduced to the normal level for an adult male. This interim period where T rises but the body has not sufficiently or fully recognized the natural state is when estrogen is aromatized and causes mild feminine body reactions. Sometimes not so mild.

It's called gynecomastia. Talk to your doctor about an Rx for tamoxifen - 20 mg/day may be able to reverse the accumulation of breast tissue. Then, 10 mg is a maintenance dose to prevent soreness and further accumulation until your testosterone level normalizes. It is more difficult to get rid of once it has become established for a while.

Are you monitoring your testosterone level? It may be low. If so, there are measures you can take that may be able to bring it back to normal.

Excellent replies !...thank you .........TA....yes I`m monitoring my T ....first check after Rads was 163.....I`m having another check in Aug. and will be seeing a new GP at that time while here in NC.... and I will discuss what you mentioned about the Tomoxifen.

My doctor prescribes cabergoline for this purpose
