HIFU was a urologist recommended treatment for me when I was exploring options after being diagnosed two and a half years ago. At the time HIFU was not USDA approved and would've required being treated outside the US.
I ultimately decided against HIFU as HDR Brachytherapy seemed to show better results. See the table in the link on Tall Allen's post. Summaries of European HIFU studies I had seen had also not shown stellar results.
At your relatively young age if you are going to treat is a focused treatment the best way to go? I was a little older than you and still figured a focused treatment would likely result in having to treat again at some point.
Dr. Karamanian commented in response to the link on TA's post that HIFU is most often actually used for whole gland treatment. But if treatment is going to be whole gland are there compelling reasons to use HIFU over other methods such as HDR Brachytherapy?
