Well it was a nice ride while it lasted, (two years) but it looks like even the mighty Zytiga can't keep this monster in check forever..My PSA jumped from 1.8 in May to 9.0 now...So the treatment plan will have to change..Things to be discussed are chemo, Xtandi, Provenge, maybe BAT if I can get into the transformer trial...My VA Onco has set me up with a bone scan next week and I visit with my Medicare Onco (team leader) next week to go over all my options...I'm still symptom and pain free but that doubling time is worrisome. I hope we can slow that down at least..Wish me luck Brothers....

I have no complaints about the Denver & Tucson VA Medical Centers...You do need to learn how the VA system works then don't fight the system...

Brother Fairwind,
My thoughts and prayers for you to have good scan results and another lasting remission with whatever treatment plan you choose. Chemo sucks, but it might be the best tx now. But at any rate, as a G 9 you have done well and inspired so many to keep hope alive, and I'm wishing you the very best for many more years of feeling good and being pain free.

Remember that you are more than any specific PSA number.
The totality of things taken together will often be more meaningful now as you continue to live your best life while making treatment decisions.

Very sorry to hear that Zytiga has run its course. I am coming up on my two year anniversary as well and I am getting more and more anxious over my PSA test. Chemo is a viable option which would attack those nasty little buggers very well. It may even Re-sensitize your body to Zytiga once again.Wishing you all the best.

How many detectable mets do you have and where are they? I'm wondering if any are big enough and in a place where they could be biopsied.

Could always do the blood biopsy as well if that hasn't been done yet. (Guardant, etc...)

Fairwind, you are not alone. It appears my 37 month run of good results on Zytiga (20 mo) then Xtandi is coming to an end. All my onco has to offer is chemo next. MD Anderson will be getting a call soon from me. Good luck Fairwind, my brother in this fight.

Fairwind --- not good news -- but not bad news ether .. you are a smart young man-- there are lot's of other things out there to help in the battle. I agree with TA. maybe Ketruda . I know I will be there someday TA. stated early cemo. works better with multiple mets . I have/had one RO put 14 grays on it!! I am coasting 0n my 3rd 6 mo. mind bender.<.01.. Hello TA...My last scan was last May, it was one of the newer high-tech scans and the radiologist at the lab who did the scan said it was clean..But when I applied for the Transformer trail in Denver, their radiologist was "concerned" over a couple of spots. But they admitted the scan I had was so sensitive it was known for false positives..So they asked me to have another scan (just a standard whole body bone scan, not the fancy one) and if it was clean they would accept me into the trial...This scan will occur on October 10 and maybe we will know more at that time..It looks like my PSA doubling time now is 5 or 6 weeks so something is going on somewhere..

Yes, the end of the road is a ways off yet....The tricky part is choosing the treatment that offers the best result while taking into consideration QOL issues....It's a tug of war....

Well we are all on this journey together and I wish you and Faustman the best. My thirty month Zytiga psa was .25 and it has been as high as .27 then back down and then up again. Not sure when I will be pulled from the Zytiga train. Keep us posted Fairwind.

I have also been on ZYTIGA, just as you have been ...

I know for some, ZYTIGA has no impact ...

For others, it works for just a few precious months ...

I just picked up my 27th monthly bottle of ZYTIGA ... day by day, I hope I can keep reaping some benefits ... it has helped to keep my PSA in the decimal range ...

Let us know what your next step might be ...

My doctor reminds me ... often ... that a change in course will be determined by changes in scans, as well as rising PSA ... my oncologist has some patients whose PSA is rising, yet they are still reaping benefits from ZYTIGA, because scans don't show any progression at this point ...

I like the newer idea that we hear about that a series of chemo treatments can "clean slate" the body, perhaps allowing fellows to try things like XTANDI or ZYTIGA yet again ... a friend of mine is pursuing chemo right now, and then plans to try ZYTIGA once again.

We're still learning the possible uses of some of these breakthrough medications ... and how they might be used a second time, or in conjunction with other treatments, for an even greater benefit.
