As I said earlier, my RO says 6 months or two years is all he that he considers valid. Initially I was to be on it for six months... two months before RT, two months during, and two months after. But my RT kept getting pushed back due to incontinence and all the other stuff I had going on...

Eventually he was going to end my HT at one year, and I volunteered to extend it to 18 months.
Now that I've adapted to life with Lupron, I figured I might as well go with the added half year, rather than quit just a few months after RT and then possibly have to come back later for more TX, like chemo or worse.

Hi all I am the wife of a G9, I hope you all allow me to join as my hubby has no interest in computers and I can barely get him to talk about his cancer. Good news: CT scan showed no mets to pelvic wall and lymphs, Bone scan showed no mets to bone! YAY met with URO this week and he wants to start Lupron next week has already ordered Casodex hubby has taken 2 doses. We are meeting with the RO on Tuesday same day he will receive the Lupron injection. I know we are in for a long fight, but hubby does not seem to have a clue. My background in nursing makes me curious, and I ask all the questions when we are seeing the doctors, but I want him to at least show some interest in his treatment. We discuss questions to ask the URO but when we get in front of him hubby just listens and I have to nudge him to ask the questions or I find myself asking. I realize he is not from the medical field and I am, but I am having a hard time understanding why he is not more involved in his care (just venting). I will do what I have to do to make sure he is getting optimal care. I do have one question for the group: What is the usual dose for LUPRON 7.5 or 22mg the URO said he will need the injection I believe monthly for a while, I am seeing where others are receiving Lupron q 3-4-or 6months. He will be taking the Casodex for 28 days.

As a GS9, my URO Surgeon, put me on Lupron (6 mon. 45 mg.) and daily Casodex (50 mg.), 1 wk. after my RALP after receiving my final path report. He referred me to an RO who is proposing RT in February.

Both Docs. have said I should be on the ADT 2-3 yrs. I have read, maybe on here, that 18 months is becoming the consensus.

Some doctors start with monthly shots of Lupron. If there are side effects which cause you to switch to a different drug you can do that more quickly than if you have a three or six months shot.

Hubby just got his first Degarelix shots this past week. RT will start sometime in February.

I hope to learn from you all. RO told hubby it wil be tough in about 3-4 weeks and "do ANYTHING you can to keep exercising!"

Persistent PSA of 0.52.

Good Morning everyone welcome to the new members of our little group. George thnx for that report I kinda like that 18 month duration of course by then it might change. I agree fully with the exercise regiment if your able to as I have gained 7 lbs since the 1st of October although I also had a new shoulder put in and the therapist told me that most of her patients gain up to 10 lbs with a new shoulder replacement. And I do exercise almost every day walking, weights, riding my fat tire and snowshoeing when we have enough snow plan on going cross country skiing tomorrow as I got released from surgeon its ok now for my shoulder.

Another interesting tidbit is that when getting my tattoos for SRT, the technician asked that I try not to lose or gain weight during the 8 weeks of treatment. I have been forewarned about the weight gain coming from ADT so I'll need to really watch it closely for the duration of SRT.

Start SRT this week -- have 2 treatments so far! ...

I've gained weight with HT too ... my blood pressure has also gone up.

Anyone's blood pressure changed? ... I've upped my does of Lorstan to help ... but it's off the charts high for some reason.

I noticed my blood pressure has been up and down I think it's something to do with Lupron. AZ guy yep when I got my tatoo's on Wednesday they told me that they don't want me to alter my weight more than 5 lbs during SRT that's because of the way everything is set up I didn't get real concerned about my 7 lb weight gain as I do exercise n Tall Allen had in one of his reports indicated that a little extra fat helped protect some of the organs during treatment.

I'm getting my simulation next Friday, and starting RT in early January. No noticeable ADT side effects YET. Also seeing yet one one RO for a fifth opinion on the 27th, just for grins.

Thanks for the link George. The final paragraph pretty much says it all...

In summary, in localized HRPC patients, ADT combined with RT can be safely reduced from 36 to 18 months without compromising oncologic outcomes or QoL. Dr. Nabid concluded that 18 months of ADT should represent a new standard of care in HRPC.

And regarding blood pressure, yes, my BP has been reading higher since starting HT this past year. My GP takes it on both arms and wonders why my usually low BP is higher. I mention Lupron to him but he doesn't blink.

It's also high anytime my dental or other health tech uses an automated cuff. But my gastroenterologist has a terrific nurse who relaxes me and takes it gently with the old fashioned cuff and it's right back into my usual 116/60 range.

Dec 18th I think there're 3 or four guys here starting different kinds of radiation treatment. I hope we all get the miracle cure!!

I go for my simulation around Feb 12 or so, starting radiation shortly thereafter to both the prostate bed and the lymph nodes. I'm guessing about 70Gy to prostate bed and 50Gy or so to the nodes, but won't know doseage and fractions until later.

Started Lupron last week, and no side effects yet - both MO and RO said 18 months is the new normal for ADT / RT treatment.

I'll let you know how I do.

Any thoughts out there about Cone Beam radiation?

My RO said, to his knowledge, he was the only one, in the St. Louis region, using Image-guided radiotherapy with Cone Beam CT, reducing the side effects on the Rectum. He has used this on 10 patients with excellent results.

Radiation day guys! I told my wife this morning I'm gonna liken it to D-Day hit the beaches with everything we got. There are gonna be a couple of tough battles along the way but we are gonna defeat the enemy and win the battle!! Wishing the best to everyone today starting radiation today and have a safe trip to the hospital.

First day for me too. The wife and daughter are coming with me to the Mayo Clinic. John McCain expected there today so I'll get there plenty early in case its really busy. First up is the laboratory- another PSA? Testosterone? Blood pressure check? Good luck today Skypilot! Let's kill some cancer!

I'm sitting in the Lake Nona VA Hospital waiting on a GI visit before starting radiation, hopefully in early January.

Well I guess I'll give my report first appt. was for 11:15 got there 10:20 empty out bladder at 10:25 drink my 16 oz water check in 10:35 10:40 they called me in got into the room 10:45 told them I had just drank my water at 10:25 they said it was ok 11:00 they came out and said it was all done. i couldn't believe it seemed like 5 minutes and they said my bladder looked pretty good could have been a touch more full I didn't know they could see that but was glad it was ok so 1 down 35 or 36 more to go. Hope everyone of you guys had as good an experience as I did!!!

Back from my first appointment. It went well, but I did not time the water right and we had to wait about 15 minutes. I'll be sure to start earlier tomorrow. And I haven't felt any side effects from the Lupron yet...two weeks.....

Larry - congrads ... I started my sessions last Wednesday, so today was #4 for me.

I'm lined up to do 39 sessions ... does that sound right for SRT?

My doctor said that I'm a higher risk case ... hmmm ....

anyone have any thoughts? ..
