Dr. Po Lam in Syracuse at Associated Medical Professionals (AMP) is by far, the best in Syracuse. The rest of the facility at AMP is not that great, but Po Lam has performed about
1,400 radical prostatectemies on the DaVinci alone. He is the area Proctor for Intuitive Surgical, the manufacturer of the DaVinci, so he essentially trains every other Doctor in the area. He also does surgery on Doctors.
I also highly recommend Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, in Buffalo. The first cancer center in the nation, they invented the PSA test, and their Urologists are some of the best. Dr. James Mohler there, has performed the same number of prostatectemies, has 37+ years on the job, has published 200+ papers & books on prostate cancer, has testified before congress on it, and is the President of the National Cancer Center Network, which is the organization of cancer centers nationwide. They, and he create the standards. He is one of the best in the country, and taught Po Lam 15 years ago.
Both Po Lam and Mohler, perform their surgeries differently than the vast majority (over 90%).
98% of their patients are dry, or essentially so, in a matter of weeks. They use a method referred to as: Bladder Neck Preservation. They are 2 of only 3 Doctors in most of upstate NY that do this. It's more complicated, and requires a highly qualified surgeon. I could not find a Doctor who performed Bladder Neck Preservation in Rochester.
I had surgery on 12/21 and am now essentially dry. PLEASE don't over-do the Kegels. NO more than 30 per day, in 3 sets of 10.
FYI, 2 weeks after catheter removal (removed on 1/2), I wore diapers most of the time, with Tena level 3 pads sometimes. I didn't even try to test ED. Things truly started changing at that 2 week point. Everything works now. You will get there, but PLEASE don't over-do the kegels.
PSA 4.3 May, 2017
MRI - July, 2017, but the first Dr. forgot to call me with the results, so I called him 3 months later.
Biopsy with Gleason 9 identified in several cores, October, 2017
Surgery 12/21/17. 10-15% of the prostate had cancer. Significant Perineural Invasion.
Catheter Removed 1/2/18
Clean Margins & Lymph Nodes 1/9/18.
First PSA post surgery 2/5/18 at Roswell Park, the place that invented the PSA: <0.04 (Undetectable).
