It compares and contrasts the 4 main treatment options: surgery, low dose rate (LDR; permanent seed) brachytherapy, high dose rate (HDR: temporary seed) brachytherapy, and external beam radiotherapy (EBRT). This is a presentation that men and their families who are still undecided as to what treatment option they prefer may find useful as it compares the risk of developing a side effect of therapy (e.g. bladder leaking, rectal bleeding, etc) between the four options. This presentation is based on the best available data in the medical literature that a collaborative group of surgeons and oncologists agreed upon to help make sure patients are provided consistent, high quality information.
SPEAKER: Dr. Danny Vesprini is a Radiation Oncologist specializing in Prostate Cancer at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, Affiliate Scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. He is one of the Principle Investigators of the Sunnybrook Active Surveillance Program, the Director of the Male Oncology Research and Education (MORE) program which focuses on men that have developed or are at a high risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer.
